WASHINGTON, D.C., (10/27/2014) LATINA Style, Inc. presents the grand finale of the 16 annual LATINA Business Series in Columbus, OH on November 13, 2014 from 7:30 am -3:30 pm at the Hilton Columbus Hotel located at 401 North High Street in Columbus OH 43215.
Columbus will mark the 117 city of the LATINA Style Business Series, highlighting a networking breakfast, an interactive expo area, and amazing educational and empowering seminars that will benefit the Latina professional.
The LATINA Style Business Series is part of the largest and most successful business development program for Latina entrepreneurs in the nation. Since its launching in 1998, the program has visited over 115 cities across the nation with over 31,000 Latina entrepreneurs participating. The program's emphasis is on creating a solid business foundation for the Latina entrepreneur.
The seminars concentrate on solving some of the most critical business challenges faced by Latina entrepreneurs as they start their business or plan for expansion. The conference includes a networking breakfast, an interactive expo area and exciting panels. Participants will take part in workshops and discussions on the topics of: accessing capital, new-age technology, a healthy workforce, and listening to Latina leaders’ advice on personal and professional growth, as well as new opportunities. Additionally, during the Awards Luncheon Ceremony, LATINA Style,Inc.will recognize a prominent Latina in the community with the LATINA Entrepreneur of the Year Award, for Columbus, Ohio.
Chairing the Columbus Business Series is Guadalupe A. Velasquez, Assistant Director, Community Relations Commission, City of Columbus, Coordinator, Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s New Americans Initiative, and Ramona Reyes, human resources professional at Nationwide, and former commissioner of the Ohio Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs. Velasquez has devoted her efforts to promoting educational, economical, professional and personal development through her work in the community. While providing resources and assistance to community members to access city, county and state services, she also serves as an internal resource to city departments as they relate to cultural competency regarding newcomer communities. Creating and hosting “Global Columbus” television program for CTV, she strives to monitor the pulse of all vital information relevant to the diverse ethnic groups living in Central Ohio. Velasquez is the first Latina woman to serve on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio
Reyes was appointed to the Columbus Board of Education in January 2009 becoming the first Latina/o on the board. She is now serving her second elected four year term. Reyes is originally from Weslaco, TX and came to Columbus when she was awarded the Campbell Soup Scholarship, a scholarship for children of migrant farm working families, to attend the Ohio State University. She graduated from the Ohio State University with a double major in Marketing and Transportation Logistics. She is an alumnus of the National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI), a Grassroots Leadership program.
