CSO announces expanded access to LUMENOCITY®
- CET to broadcast event live to television viewers on Saturday, August 2
- 90.9 WGUC to carry LUMENOCITY live on the radio Friday, August 1
- Fountain Square and Riverbend Music Center live simulcasts on Sunday, August 3 * All three performances to be carried live via web stream

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announced today expanded access to the immensely popular LUMENOCITY® event through live television and radio broadcasts, two remote “live sites” offering the event on giant outdoor LED screens, live webcasts, and 5,000 available tickets for the LUMENOCITY dress rehearsal on Thursday, July 31.
The CSO is also releasing 3,300 tickets for the performances on August 1, 2 and 3, and will distribute these and the dress rehearsal tickets via online drawing at lumenocity2014.com. When LUMENOCITY tickets became available to the general public on Monday, June 9, there were over 300,000 visits to the lumenocity2014.com website seeking free tickets and the event capacity of 37,500 over three nights was reached in twelve minutes.
“From day one, LUMENO CITY has been guided by a spirit and character of equity, access and generosity,” said CSO President Trey Devey. “Demand for the event far exceeds the capacity of the Washington Park viewing area. Now, thanks to some extraordinary partners and our sponsors, especially the LUMENOCITY Media Production Sponsor P&G Design and Broadcast Sponsor The Johnson Foundation, able to make this free event available on television, radio, live simulcast sites and the worldwide web. It is our goal to 90.9 WGUC will broadcast LUMENOCITY on radio Friday, August 1 LUMENOCITY is a live concert experience, and the CSO will work with 90.9 WGUC, Cincinnati’s classical public radio station and a longtime Orchestra partner, to bring that live music to radio listeners throughout the Tri-state. The radio broadcast will feature the complete LUMENOCITY performance that night, including the first half of the program featuring conductor John Morris Russell leading the Orchestra as the Cincinnati Pops with guest performers, and the second half featuring CSO Music Director Louis Langrée conducting the Orchestra.
This special radio broadcast will also afford many people in and around the downtown Cincinnati area with a view of Music Hall whether that be from hilltops or rooftops to both see and hear LUMENOCITY from a distance.
CET airs LUMENOCITY live on television Saturday, August 2 CET, Cincinnati’s public television station and another longtime partner of the CSO, will air the second half LUMENOCITY live on Saturday, August 2, starting at 9:30 p.m. This portion of LUMENOCITY features the CSO, led by Music Director Mr. Langrée, performing five selections in Washington Park set to stunning visuals projected onto the façade of Music Hall and developed by the artists of Brave Berlin, a Cincinnati-based design and consulting firm. The live program will be available to nearly 900,000 television households throughout the region. Simulcasts at Fountain Square and Riverbend Music Center on Sunday, August 3
For for the final performance on Sunday, August 3, the public is invited to experience together a live simulcast to the LED board at Fountain Square and the five recently installed LED boards at Riverbend Music Center’s lawn. Audiences are welcome to bring picnics and lawn chairs to either location and and experience LUMENOCITY free of charge with friends and neighbors. Concessions will also be available at River bend, which is owned and operated by the CSO.
This live feed will feature the full performance and is possible thanks to the Orchestra’s partnerships with CET, 90.9 WGUC and 3CDC.
LUMENOCITY on the Worldwide Web
Thanks to CET and 90.9 WGUC, LUMENOCITY will be carried via live web stream to people around the world for all three performances at lumenocity2014.com. The live web stream will begin at 8:30 p.m. Easter standard time on all three days: August 1, 2 and 3.
“We’re of course committed to having as many people as possible experience LUMENOCITY live in Washington Park, but given the overwhelming interest and demand, the CSO is delighted to bring this unique concert experience to many thousands of people locally and around the globe through our media partners,” said Mr. Devey.
CSO to release dress rehearsal tickets
In the interest of expanding access to LUMENOCITY, the CSO is distributing 5,000 free tickets to the concert’s dress rehearsal on Thursday, July 31. This is a working rehearsal, and will give attendees insight into how LUMENOCITY comes together. LUMENOCITY Village, located at the
South end of Washington Park outside of the LUMENOCITY viewing area, will not be open for this dress rehearsal. LUMENOCITY Village opens at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 1, and 11 a.m. on both Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3.
There will be some onsite concession stands open at the July 31 dress rehearsal within the gated viewing area.
How to get tickets
Five thousand tickets for the dress rehearsal and 3,300 newly released tickets for the performances on August 1, 2 and 3 will be issued for free via a ticket drawing. Patrons may register (one registration per household) for the drawing at lumenocity2014.com. Registration will remain open from now until 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. While registering for the drawing, patrons must choose a date for which to enter (either the Thursday dress rehearsal or the Friday, Saturday or Sunday performances). Patrons who have already reserved tickets will not be eligible for drawing tickets. Drawing winners will be selected randomly in a process managed by the accounting firm of Clark, Schaefer, Hackett & Co., and then notified on July 21. On July 30, winners will receive one- time-use online redemption codes to access and print tickets.
Printing tickets ordered on June 9
Individuals who successfully ordered tickets on June 9 are now receiving redemption codes via email to access and print those tickets through Ticketmaster. LUMENOCITY is a groundbreaking free concert experience presented by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in Cincinnati’s Washington Park on August 1, 2 and 3, 2014. The event promises heart- pounding musical performances and stunning animation created by Brave Berlin and projected onto the façade of historic Music Hall. The inaugural LUMENOCITY in 2013 drew record crowds to Washington Park and took the social media world by storm with over two million impressions on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Described as a “tipping point” by the Cincinnati Enquirer, the community-wide event brought 35,000 people over two nights to a former dilapidated park in the inner city, amplifying the revitalization of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, Washington Park, the City’s burgeoning creative community and its reputation as a major cultural center in America.
The 2014 LUMENOCITY concert performances will begin at 8:30 p.m. each of the three evenings with John Morris Russell conducting the Orchestra as the Cincinnati Pops. After a brief intermission, Music Director Louis Langrée will lead the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for an amazing display of sound and light. Three-dimensional image mapping will again be employed to create mind-blowing projected visual animations on the façade of Music Hall, quite literally shining a light on this treasured Cincinnati landmark and important community gathering place in need of revitalization and restoration. The visual effects will accompany a live 40-minute CSO program featuring works from Copland, John Adams, Tchaikovsky, Elgar and Borodin.

Ten percent of the tickets for LUMENOCITY were designated for public libraries and human service organizations. Other community service organization partners will be acknowledged publicly after the tickets are distributed to the needy families and individuals they serve. The CSO does not want these organizations overrun with demands that would be a distraction from the critical work that they are doing for the Greater Cincinnati community.
